Damascus Amplifier: (Starts Fridays)
(Weekdays noted are applicable except for the special Christmas and New Year tour itineraries.)
Friday--Afternoon transfer from Madaba across the Jordan/Syria border to Damascus, arguably the world's oldest city and certainly one of the most delightful. Our Syrian guide will meet you at the border crossing to arrange your group visa. Overnight Damascus.
Sunday--Free day to continue exploring Damascus on your own. Or, sign up for a full-day excursion. One option will include a visit to Ma'alula, one of the three remaining villages in the world where Aramaic, the language of Jesus, is still spoken. After visiting the ancient monastery there, drive on to Krak des Chevaliers to tour a fine Crusader Castle. Return to Damascus for overnight. The second option is to visit Palmyra and the ruins of the oasis city-state of Tadmoor. A testament to the trading and defensive importance of this ancient city is in the grand monuments still to be seen. Overnight Damascus. [B]
Monday--Morning departure to Bosra, where you will tour the ruins of a city which was once a capital of the Nabatean Empire, as well as a major trading stop. Mondays, continue through the Syria/Jordan border to your hotel in Madaba for overnight. Wednesdays, drive to Jerash to tour the Decapolis city site. Drive on to Amman for overnight. [B]
